An investigation was carried out into the effect of different concentrations of aluminium ions on the activity of succinate dehydrogenase. The enzyme concentration and all other conditions were kept constant. The graph below shows the results of this investigation.

With reference to the graph, describe the effect of the concentration of aluminium ions on the rate of production of fumarate.

Succinate dehydrogenase is the only enzyme that participates in both the citric acid cycle and the electron transport chain. When the effect of different concentrations of aluminium ions on the activity of succinate dehydrogenase is studied, it is observed that increasing the concentration of aluminium ions from 0 to 40 $μ$ mol increases fumarate production. Whereas, increasing the concentration of aluminium ions from 40 to 120 $μ$ mol has little effect.
