(i) Cuboidal epithelium: It consists of a single layer of cuboidal cells.

(ii) Columnar epithelium: It is composed of tall, cylindrical cells with oval nuclei usually placed at the base of the cells.

(iii) Ciliated epithelium: It consists of cells bearing hair-like cilia on their free surface.

(a) Figure (a) represents cuboidal epithelium as it consists of a single layer of cuboidal cells. These cells are usually concerned with absorption. Example: Inner wall lining of kidney tubules.

(b) Figure (b) represents columnar epithelium as it is composed of tall, cylindrical cells with oval nuclei usually placed at the base of the cells. The small intestine has structures known as villi which are lined with columnar epithelial tissue. Its main functions include absorption and secretion.

(c) Figure (c) represents ciliated epithelium as it consists of cells bearing hair-like cilia on their free surface. The function of cilia in the columnar epithelium is to facilitate the movement of substances in a passage in a particular direction. The ciliated columnar epithelium lines the trachea and bronchi in the respiratory tract to keep the flow of mucus.
