In this method, the bats use sound waves and echoes to detect where obstacles are in space. A reflected sound, arriving at the position of listener more than $0.1 s$ after the direct sound is called an echo. In the method of echolocation, bats emit sound waves from the nose or mouth. When these sound waves hit an object, echoes will be created. These echoes bounce back from the object and reach the ears of bats. The sound wave used in the technique of echolocation is ultrasonic sound. A horseshoe bat is having large ears that can be moved around. The lower part of the nose leaf of a horseshoe bat is shaped like a horseshoe. The nostrils of the horseshoe bat emit echolocation calls. The basal fleshy horseshoe structure present in the nostrils of a horseshoe bat is particularly adapted to function as a megaphone. The ears of horseshoe bats are specially designed such that they can detect differences in frequencies of sounds as slight as $0.001 kHz$ .
