Haryana Local Self Government
1. The concept of Local Self Government was exercised with an objective to promote political decentralization in the country. Moreover, it also promotes the Gandhian philosophy of governance.
2. The concept of the Panchayati raj system and urban bodies were given statutory bases by the 73rd and 74th constitutional amendment act respectively.
3. On the recommendation of the Balwant Rai Mehta committee, the state of Haryana has adopted the three-tier Panchayati raj system namely, Gram Panchayats- at the village level, Panchayat Samiti- at the block level, and Zila Parishad- at the district level.
4. As of 2021, the state has a total of 6234 Gram Panchayats, 126 Panchayat Samitis, and 21 Zila Parishads.
5. Moreover, the state has a number of urban local bodies at Sonipat, Faridabad, Sirsa, Panchkula, Gurugram, etc.
