Across 2. Scouring- The process of washing the fleece (cut hair of sheep) that removes dust, dirt, dried sweat and grease is called scouring. Scouring makes the fleece of sheep clean. 5. Dyeing- The natural fleece or hair of sheep (or goats) is white, brown or black in colour. The white woollen fibres obtained by sorting can be dyed in different colours. It is normally done in a special solution containing dyes and particular chemical material. 6. Sorting- The process of separating the fleece of a sheep into sections according to the quality of woollen fibres (such as fine, coarse, long, short, etc.) is called sorting. Down 1. Knitting- The larger fibres are spun into yarns and knitted for making sweaters whereas the shorter fibres are used to spun and woven into woollen clothes. 3. Grading- The process of grouping of wool according to their length, colour, texture and ease of dyeing is called grading. 4. Spinning- The fibres after drying are oiled, straightened, combed, washed, twisted and spun into yarn. The fibres are straightened by keeping them under rollers to stretch them and twisted into yarns.
