1. Addition:

(i) Addition of numbers can be done with regrouping and without regrouping.

(ii) Steps of addition:

(a) Arrange the numbers as per the place value chart.

(b) Add the digits in each column starting from the ones place.

(c) Regroup if the sum of digits in a column is more than 9.

(iii) Double of the number is obtained by adding the number to itself.

(iv) Addition is performed when we need to find the total number of items.

2. Subtraction:

(i) Subtraction of numbers can be done with regrouping and without regrouping.

(ii) Steps of subtraction:

(a) Arrange the numbers as per the place value chart.

(b) Subtract the digits in each column starting from the ones place.

(c) Regroup if the digit in the minuend of a column is less than the digit in the subtrahend of the same column.

(iii) Subtraction can be used to solve word problems.
