All living things are made up of cells. The cell is the basic structural and functional unit of life. They were discovered by Robert Hooke in the year 1665. Cells consist of cytoplasm, organelles and nucleus enclosed within a plasma membrane. The membrane contains biomolecules such as proteins and lipids.
