Flax is an example of plant fibre. Flax fibres are produced in the stems of flax bast plant. Flax fibre is soft, lustrous, and flexible; bundles of fibre have the appearance of blonde hair, hence the description "flaxen" hair. It is stronger than cotton fibre, but less elastic. Silk is obtained from the cocoon of silkworm. Hence, it is an animal fibre. Silkworm are fed on the leaves of the mulberry trees. Each worm spins a continuous thread up to 800 metre long to make a cocoon. The cocoon is boiled in water to kill the silkworm alive and then unwound to get silk fibre. Gaddi is an important breed of goat found in India. It is one of the 8 different sheep breeds found in the northern temperate area of India. It is raised mainly for wool production. The breed is mainly distributed in Kistwar and Bhadarwah tehsils in Jammu province of Jammu & Kashmir, Ramnagar, Udampur and Kullu and Kangra valleys of Himachal Pradesh and Dehradun. Mohair is a fibre obtained from Angora goat. It is composed mostly of keratin, a protein found in the hair, wool, horns and skin of all mammals, but mohair's special properties are unique to the Angora goat. The domestic yak (Bos grunniens) is a long-haired domesticated cattle found throughout the Himalayan region of the Indian subcontinent, the Tibetan Plateau, Northern Myanmar, Yunnan, Sichuan and as far north as Mongolia and Siberia. It is descended from the wild yak (Bos mutus). Angora rabbit gives us very fine wool. Angora rabbits produce coats in a variety of colours, from white through tan, grey, and brown to black.
