The digestive system helps the body to digest food. The similarities of the digestive system between humans and ruminants are as follows:

The oesophagus is a muscular tube-like organ through which food passes from the pharynx to the stomach.

The small intestine is a site where digestion of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats takes place with the help of secretions from the liver and pancreas and the majority of nutrients are absorbed from food.

The large intestine is a site where absorption of water from undigested food takes place and waste materials from the body are excreted out through the anus.

The differences between humans and ruminants are as follows:
