India's environmental conditions play a major role in cultivating different crops. The major crops are:

Pulses: Pulses are grown all over the country excluding areas that have heavy rainfall. Pulses are grown in rotation with other crops. The plants being leguminous helps in restoring the nitrogen contents of the soil.

Oil Seeds: Groundnut, rapeseed, and mustard are the principal oilseeds. Rapeseed and mustard are grown mostly in the wheat belt of northern India and central India. Gujarat is the leading producer of groundnut.

Cotton: Cotton holds the first position among the commercial crops in India. Black soil is ideal for cotton growth. The major producing areas are Gujarat and Maharashtra.

Sugarcane: Sugarcane is one of the profitable cash crops and grows best in fertile soil with $100$ cm of rainfall. India is known as the homeland of sugarcane. It is cultivated mostly in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Punjab, Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu.

Tea: It is one of the most important plantation crops in India. India is the world's largest producer, consumer, and exporter of black tea. The majority of India's tea production came from Assam, West Bengal, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu.
