Given,

To construct an equilateral triangle $A B C$ of side $5 cm$ .

Steps for construction of the triangle $A B C$ :

Draw a line segment $AB = 5 cm$

With $A$ as centre and radius $5 cm$ , draw an arc above $A B$

With $B$ as centre and radius $5 cm$ , draw another arc cutting the previous arc at $C .$

Join $A C$ and $B C .$

Then $△ A B C$ is required triangle.

The measure of its angles will always remain same i.e. $60 °$ if the length of its side is changed.

Now we have to draw the altitude.

The altitude of a triangle is a perpendicular that is drawn from the vertex of a triangle to the opposite side.

To draw altitude draw an arc on opposite side that cuts the side two times and with those two points cut and form point which joins with vertex to give altitude.

From the figure we can see that the altitudes are of equal length.

The length of altitude is $4.33 c m$ .
