Malik is the landowner. There are two types of landowners, one is the absentee landowner, who lives in cities or towns and has land in the village, and another one is those who live in the village in which they own their land. Both types of Malik derive their agricultural income mainly from property rights. They usually give their land on rent either on the total case or half of the produce.

Mazdoors are those who do not have land and work as agricultural labourers on others' land for their livelihood. They get wages either in cash or in different forms.

Farmers are known as Kisan. Kisans are those who have a small piece of land, and income from that land is very less. He generally borrows money from money lenders for farming. The difference between Kisan and Malik is the size of the land they hold. Sometimes his income is very low so he and his family members work as agricultural labourers.
