Camouflage: The ability of an organism or an animal to merge with its surroundings is called camouflage. For example, polar bears have thick white fur on their bodies which matches with white snow. This makes it difficult for other animals to spot it.

Hibernation: A very special adaptation is found in the animals which do not migrate when the weather turns cold. They go off to sleep during winter. This process is called hibernation. This protects the animals from starving to death.

Mimicry: Mimicry is a feature found in some animals. It is an adaptation for protection. Animals like chameleon copy the colours of other animals and behave like them. This is called mimicry. The stick insect which looks like a twig is an example of mimicry.

Migration: Migration is the mass movement of animals from one place to another. Animals migrate in search of food, for a warmer climate, for laying eggs, and bringing up their young ones in a safer place.
