Plants perform transportation through two different ways i.e. active and passive.
The process through which movement of the molecules takes place without the utilization of energy or ATP is called passive transportation. Diffusion, facilitated diffusion, and osmosis are examples of passive transportation in plants.
The movement of particles from a region of its higher concentration to the region of its lower concentration down the concentration gradient until equilibrium is attained is called diffusion. The pressure created by the diffusion of molecules is known as diffusion pressure.

Diffusion is a physical phenomenon that involves the movement of water from higher concentration to lower concentration. It is not a selective process and does not require energy. When water enters into the plant body through diffusion, it gets transported as per the concentration gradient existing between the cells.

Experiment on the process of diffusion: When the crystals of copper sulphate placed in a beaker of water, after a while, the crystals slowly gets dissolved and color particles slowly mixed in water to produce equal intensity of the colour to the solution.

The factors that affect the rate of diffusion are:

Temperature- The higher the temperature, the more kinetic energy the particles will have, so they will move more quickly. Therefore, they are directly proportional.

The concentration of the medium and concentration gradient- The greater the difference in concentration, the quicker the rate of diffusion.

The greater the surface area, the faster the rate of diffusion.
