Opposite: In this type of arrangement of leaves, two leaves arise from the stem at the same level and opposite each other. Examples are Jamun and Quisqualis.

Alternate: In this type of arrangement of leaves, each leaf arises singly and alternately from the stem. Examples are China rose, peepal, sunflower, etc.

Whorled: In this type of arrangement of leaves, three or more leaves arise from the same level of the stem and encircle it. Examples are Nerium and Hydrilla.
