Museum is a building in which objects of interest or importance are stored and displayed for educational purpose. The Botanical museum and Zoological museum are the two divisions of biological museum.
Botanical museum- In Botanical museum different non-living plant materials are preserved in appropriate chemical medium so that, the plant body is not decomposed maintaining all its characteristics.
Zoological museum- In zoological museum the non-living zoological specimens are preserved in appropriate chemical medium to keep the animal away from decomposition.
Certain plant and animal species are kept in dry condition in the museum.

Importance of museum:-
1. Biological research museum has a mission similar to that of libraries, but instead of preserving books, biological collections are preserved for individual organisms.
2. Museum is not a static place, in reality specimen collections grow continuously through the activities of the faculty, students and researchers as well as by exchange with other museums.
3. Biological collection of specimens in museum may be the source of informations regarding phylogenetic (evolutionary) relationship, whether morphological or genetic.
4. For the study of comparative biology without the use of specimens preserved in museum in a phylogenetic context.
