Poverty is defined as a lack of resources or income to acquire the basic necessities of life. For example, food, clothing, shelter, health, and education.

The government has started a lot of programmes to allow these people to overcome their poverty situation. These are -

MGNREGA- Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act was started in $2005$ , it guarantees rural employment for unskilled labourers for $100$ days. This scheme is implemented in all major districts.

NFWP- National Food for Work Programme was launched in $2004$ . It is implemented in $150$ backward districts of the country. This scheme gives food grains for free who works as an unskilled manual labourer.

PMRY- Prime Minister Rozgar Yojna was started in $1993$ . It aims to create entrepreneurs for educated unemployed youths in rural areas.

REGP- Rural Employment Generation Programme was launched in $1995$ . The Khadi and Village industries commission has started to create employment in rural areas.

SGSY- Swarnajayanti Gram Swarozgar yojna was started in $1999$ . It helps poor families in getting through banks credits and government subsidies.

AAY- Antodaya Anna Yojna started in $2000$ . This scheme helps the poorest eligible two crore families with thirty-five kilograms of rice or wheat at highly subsidised rates.
