Socialism: It is a political ideology that focuses on economic and social equality. It is mainly concerned with the equitable distribution of wealth. People who follow this ideology are called Socialists. The core belief of the socialists is that everything in society is created by the mutual cooperation of the state and its citizens. The main purpose of socialism is to reduce the economic inequality that is present in society.

Secularism: Secularism in its western conception refers to the separation of state from the affairs of the religion. But in India, an incredibly diverse land, secularism refers to the equal treatment of all religions. Since India houses three of the biggest religions in the world, it becomes the activity of the state to intervene and regulate the religious affairs of the society. Thus, it is important for the Indian state to be unbiased. Hence, Indian secularism refers to the equal treatment of religion rather than the complete separation of the state from religious affairs.

Federalism: Federalism deals with the division of power between different levels of government. For instance, India has a federal form of government. This means that, in India, the power is shared at two levels, i.e., centre and state.

Liberty: The basic idea of liberty is the absence of restraints and domination on an individual. The Preamble of the Indian Constitution provides for the liberty of thought, expression, belief, faith and worship.
