Insects exchange the gases through small openings on their body surface known as spiracles. Gill is a breathing organ found in almost all aquatic animals. Gills help animals to absorb oxygen dissolved in water. Amphibians are the cold-blooded animals which respire through their gills, lungs and moist skin. Mammals respire through their lungs. The function of the lungs is to transport oxygen which is inhaled through the nose to the blood and to release carbon dioxide from the blood. Birds like parrot, pigeon, crow etc use wings to fly from one place to another. The forelimbs of a bird are modified in the form of wings. Fish uses fins to move from one place to another. The tail fins help them to change direction. Insects like termites, lice, etc. move by crawling. Similarly, ants and cockroaches walk with legs. A grasshopper hops using its long hind legs.
