Phytohormones are the plant hormones. These are synthesized at one place and are targeted far. There are many plant hormones known as Auxin, Gibberellins, Cytokinins, Ethylene, Abscisic acid. Auxin is present at the root and shoot tips and is responsible for their growth. Auxin suppresses lateral growth. Gibberellins are responsible for the growth of the internodes by cell elongation. It breaks seed dormancy and initiates germination. It also delays senescence. There are different forms of gibberellins reported from different plants, named as GA1, GA2, GA3, and so on. Gibberellic acid (GA3,) is the most studied form.

Cytokinin helps in the growth of the plant by cell division. Ethylene is responsible for fruit ripening. Abscisic acid is a growth-retarding hormone. It induces seed dormancy and helps the seed to withstand unfavourable condition. It also stimulates the closure of stomata.
