Factory wastes mainly contain acids, which if discharged in water bodies without treatment will make the water bodies acidic. It kills the fishes and other aquatic organisms so must be neutralised with bases before discharging into water.

Bee sting contains formic acid. When it stings a person, it releases formic acid into the skin which causes pain. When calamine lotion is applied on the infected area it gives relief from pain because calamine lotion contains zinc carbonate which is basic in nature that neutralizes the acid.

Antacids are bases like milk of magnesia or magnesium hydroxide. These bases neutralise the excess acid formed in our stomach, thus curing the acidity.
