The male gametes present in the pollen grains should be transferred to the female gamete present in the ovary to bring about fertilization. The process of transfer of pollen grains to the stigma of a flower is called pollination.

After fertilisation, the ovary grows into a fruit and other parts of the flower fall off. The fruit is the ripened ovary. The seeds develop from the ovules. The seed contains an embryo enclosed in a protective seed coat. Some fruits are fleshy and juicy such as mango and orange.

The process of fusion of male and female gametes to form a zygote is called fertilization. Post fertilization, the ovules develop into the seeds containing the embryo, and the ovary develops to become the fruit.
