Materials required: a metallic bob, silk thread, a clamp, and a stopwatch
Procedure:
Tie a silk thread to the metallic bob. Set up the simple pendulum as shown.

Displace the bob from its mean position so that the simple pendulum starts oscillating. Make sure it oscillates freely and does not touch any object.
Start the stopwatch when the bob is at an extreme position. When the bob comes back to the same extreme position, one oscillation is completed.
Stop the stopwatch when the bob completes 20 such oscillations and record the time taken for it.
To find the time period of the simple pendulum, divide the total time taken to complete 20 oscillations by 20.
Let the time taken to complete 20 oscillations = t seconds
The time period of the simple pendulum, $T = \frac{t}{20} s$
This time period is the time taken by the pendulum to complete one oscillation. Repeat this procedure three or four times without changing the arrangement.
Observation: You will observe that the time period will be the same in each case.
