In the Lahore session held in $1929$ , the Congress decided to launch the Civil Disobedience Movement. The Civil Disobedience Movement was officially launched by Gandhi in March $1930$ when the eleven demands given by him to the Viceroy were not met. This movement was more forceful than the previous protests.

It began with the Dandi March to break the salt laws. The march began from Sabarmati Ashram on March $12$ ^th March and ended on $6$ ^th April at Dandi. Gandhi broke the salt laws and this signalled the beginning of the Civil Disobedience Movement. In the first phase, people all over the country started manufacturing their own salt. Many leaders emerged in this movement like C.Rajagopalachari, Sarojini Naidu, and Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan.

Defying Salt Laws: Gandhi defied the British by manufacturing salt in Dandi. Boiling seawater was used to produce salt, several groups joined Gandhi in this process. He explained the importance of Swaraj and non-violence to his supporters.
Non Payment of Taxes: The peasantry opposed the salt tax levied by the British. The peasantry refused to pay revenue taxes to the British government. Other than this, the peasantry also refused to pay taxes and revenues imposed by the British.
