Double fertilization in angiosperm refers to the fusion of one sperm nucleus with the egg cell which resulting in zygote formation and further develops to become a plant embryo inside the seed. The second sperm fuses with the two polar nuclei and forms triploid endosperm which is a source of food for the developing embryo. Thus, this process involves the fusion of three nuclei therefore it is known as triple fusion.
