The temperature is called the degree of hotness or coldness of the air.

Sun is the main light and heat source on Earth.

The heat of the Sun is received by incoming solar radiation into the Earth.

The temperature on the surface of the Sun itself is $6000 °$ .

However, since the Earth is located 150 million km from the Sun, a little quantity of radiated heat reaches us from the Sun.

This incoming solar energy received by the Earth is called insolation. It is the principal factor that determines the temperature of a place.

Due to the shape of the Earth, sun rays are more or less direct over the Tropics and oblique over the polar areas.

The amount of insolation thus decreases from the equator to the poles. Hence, the zone of maximum insolation is the Torrid Zone.

Temperatures in the temperate zones are moderate while in the Frigid Zone, the temperature is very low.
