When hydrated salts are heated, they will lose their water of crystallization. The effect of heat on hydrated salts can be explained by taking the example of copper sulphate crystals as:
Take a small amount of copper sulphate crystal in a dry test tube. After that, clamp the test tube in a tilted position to make sure that the condensed water will not slip back as shown in the figure:

Heat the crystals for some time. Now, we can see that some drops of colourless liquid will be condensed on the cooler wall of the test tube leaving behind a dry non-crystalline structure which does not have a definite shape or structure.
This shows that, when a hydrated salt like copper sulphate is heated, it loses the water of crystallization and becomes anhydrous dry white powder.
