Growth of the pollen tube: The pollen tube elongates and grows through the style towards the ovary. This tube serves as a conduit for the male gametes (sperm cells) to travel from the stigma to the ovule within the ovary.

Once the pollen tube reaches the ovary, it releases the two sperm cells into the ovule. One sperm cell fertilises the egg cell, and the other sperm cell fertilises the central cell. This process is called double fertilisation.
