Reproduction is the process of producing the new individuals from the parent’s gametes. This process consists of various stages like gamete formation, copulation, zygote formation, implantation, parturition etc. For smooth functioning of theses processes both male and female have reproductive organs.

The different parts of the female reproductive system are:

Ovary: it contains germinal cells that develop to form follicles and eggs. Every month one egg is produced and released by it.

Fallopian tubes: these are the pair of tubes that carries the egg from ovary to uterus. It consists of infundibulum, ampulla and isthmus.

Uterus: it is located at the lower side of the abdomen. It is the site of the implantation of the foetus.

Cervix: it is situated at the lower side of the uterus and it opens for the entry of sperms and during parturition.

Vagina: it is a tube-like organ that facilitates the entry of the sperms for fertilization.
