The internal structure of a dicot root shows the following structure:

Epiblema: This is the outermost one-cell thick layer that consists of compactly arranged cells. Some cells produce unicellular root hairs.

Cortex: This extends from below the epiblema up to the pericycle. It is comparatively simple and homogeneous forming a wide zone of simple parenchyma with prominent intercellular spaces.

Endodermis: This is the innermost layer of the cortex that separates vascular tissue from the cortex. It consists of a layer of compactly arranged barrel-shaped cells, around the ring of vascular bundles. The cells possess distinct Casparian thickenings on their radial walls.

Pericycle: Inner to the endodermis lies a pericycle. It is a thin-walled parenchymatous layer. It forms the outermost layer of the stele.

Vascular tissue: The vascular bundles are radial. The tissue by which xylem and phloem are separated is called conjunctive tissue. Based on the position of the protoxylem it is exarch.
