A negative interaction is the kind of relationship between two organisms in which one species is harmed. There are different kinds of negative interaction among species:
Predation: In this kind of relationship, one larger individual, usually obtains its nutrition by killing and eating smaller species. The larger organism is called a predator and the smaller organism is the prey. In predation, the predator population affects the growth and expansion of the prey population. Predator is benefited, and prey is harmed.

Parasitism: It is the kind of relationship in which a smaller organism derives its nutrition, food, or shelter from the larger species called the host, causing it some harm. Parasites cannot survive in the absence of a host. Parasitism can be of two types-ectoparasitism and endoparasitism
Ectoparasitism-In this kind, parasites live outside the host organism. For example, ticks.
Endoparasitism-In this kind, parasites live inside the host organism. Example, Blood fluke.

Competition: It is another kind of relationship in which one organism competes with another organism for resources. It can be interspecific or intraspecific. Both of the species get harmed in this interaction. Competition is very important in determining the distribution of closely related species.

Amensalism: It is an antagonistic interspecific relationship in which one species is harmed, and another is neither benefited nor harmed. Species which are getting harmed are amensal and the other species is an inhibitor. Inhibition is done by the chemicals. Example-marigold secretes the allelochemicals which inhibits the growth of nematodes in soil.
