Slums are the most compact settlements of humans in India. Dharavi, one of India's largest slums has a population of around $10$ lakh even in a small area of only $2.4$ square km. Basically, due to low-income status, people are compelled to live in slums.

Health and hygiene conditions are not very good in these slums and due to being very densely populated, there is always a chance of outbreak of many infectious diseases.

The availability of proper drinking water and sanitation facilities is not up to the mark.

There is a lack of good schools and other educational facilities for the children living in these areas.

The houses are so compact that there are no facilities for fresh air and ventilation

These areas are very compact, so no transportation facilities can be provided.

These areas also lack parks, gardens, and other basic urban facilities.
