The micropropagation process is another method of vegetative propagation of plants that is similar to the rooting of plant cuttings. It differs from the conventional procedure since it is carried out in an aseptic condition and requires an artificial nutrient medium. A small plant cutting or explant is sterilized and inoculated into a culture vessel containing a semi-solid nutrient medium. The inoculated culture vessel is incubated at room temperature. In a short period, many shoots develop from the auxiliary buds through a process is called auxiliary bud proliferation. Each growing point is subcultured to give rise to shoot. This phenomenon is called adventitious shoot formation. Each shoot is stimulated by auxin to develop roots. The new propagule is then transferred into the field.

This process is practiced for ornamental, fruit, and crop plants. It is favorable:-
The healthy propagules can only be obtained that are pathogen-free.
Rapid rates of multiplication.
Development of plant materials with the desired trait.
Apart from the applications of the micropropagation technique for generating true-to-type planting material from elite genotype, this technique holds special significance in a situation where rapid bulking of extremely limited stock material is required.
