Florigen is a hypothetical hormone proposed by some scientists which induce flowering in plants. It is produced during photoperiodism which is the ability of the plant to detect and respond to the length of the daily period of light. It was believed that under favourable conditions of photoperiod, a stimulus is produced and this stimulus is hormonal in nature. It is supposed to be synthesised when the plants attain specific reproductive maturity.
