According to the census $2001$ , India has recorded more than $5$ million persons which are migrated to India from other countries. As far as emigration from India, around $20$ million people of the Indian diaspora across $110$ countries.

Emigration- Emigration- Remittances sent by migrants are a major source of benefit. One of the major sources of foreign exchange is Remittances from international migrants. Places such as Punjab, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu receive a very significant amount of their international migrants. In this point-of-a-view source region, the remittances are major benefits but the loss of human resources basically of highly skilled people for a serious cost.

Social consequences- People act as agents of social change, they carry the ideas related to new technology, etc, when they move from one country to another. Migration also leads to intermixing of people from diverse cultures. The positive contributions of migration are the evolution of global culture and widen of the mental horizon of people. On the other hand, people also move out of their own countries to other countries due to differing social and cultural values.

Immigration-The heavy migrants from neighbouring countries, mostly being illegal gives rise to many socio-economic problems such as an increase in population, which causes overcrowding, the development of unregulated colonies, and slums. It also leads to an increase in pressure on infrastructure, which is unable to cope with the ever-increasing population. This further leads to an increase in crime rates, especially against women as most of the migrants are male which disturbs the age-sex ratio of recipient cities in India.
