Solubility is the process of complete mixing of one substance into another.

Solubility of solids in water: The solids which can dissolve in liquid is called soluble substances while the material which cannot dissolve in water is called insoluble substance. Substances such as salt and sugar soluble solids while chalk powder, sand etc. are insoluble solids.

Solubility of liquid in water: Liquids which dissolve in another liquids is called miscible liquids while the liquids which do not mix with another liquid is called immiscible liquids. For example, glycerine, vinegar, alcohol etc will mix with water but oil, kerosene, petrol etc are immiscible liquids. The immiscible liquids form separate layer when they mix with another.

Solubility of gases in water: Gases like carbon dioxide, ammonia and oxygen which we breathe are dissolve slightly in water but carbon monoxide is not.
