The cell wall is a rigid structure that forms a layer outside the plasma membrane in plants, fungi, algae, bacteria, and archaea. The different functions of the cell wall are to provide definite shape to the cell, protects the protoplasm from external injury, helps in the cell to cell interaction, and provides a barrier to foreign substances.
All three layers of plants are as follows:

Middle lamella: This layer is composed of calcium and magnesium pectate, which cements the cell walls of two adjacent cells together. Both the middle lamella and cell wall are transversed by an intercellular channel called plasmodesmata, which connects the cytoplasm of adjacent cells.

Primary cell wall: It is located on the inner side of the middle lamella. The characteristic of this cell wall is that the cells present in it undergoes rapid cell division that aids in the growth and extension of the cell wall. It is present in young and growing plants and diminishes gradually when cells attain maturity.

Secondary cell wall: It is formed inner ward to the primary cell wall and outward to the plasma membrane. The secondary cell wall is produced after the primary cell wall stops expanding. It provides additional support to the cell.

The primary and secondary cell walls are composed of cellulose microfibrils, lignin, glycoprotein, etc.
