Following factors led to the rise of Nationalism in India:

Discontent against British rule: The Indian masses were highly dissatisfied with the economic and administrative policies of the British government. The condition of peasants and industry workers was pathetic due to the high demand for taxes and bad working conditions in the industries.

Feeling of Unity: The British are credited with the political, social and economic unity of this country. This unity helped Indians in a way that nationalistic feelings were invoked inside them. The means of communication introduced by the British led Indians to see their poor condition and to bond with people from different castes, states and languages.

Spread of Modern Education: The modern or say English education was introduced by the British to replace the Vernacular education in India and to create a class of Indian servants for them. However, this helped the Indian educated masses to read about the different ideas of freedom, nationalism and revolutions.
