Mixture Method of separation a. Some grains of rice stuck in a ball of wax Heating this mixture slightly will melt the wax. The rice grains can be separated. Washing these grains in hot water will wash away the wax stuck to them. b. Some iron filings mixed with feathers Moving a magnet above this will attract only the iron filings. c. small stones mixed with wheat grains The sieving method is used. The mixture is passed through a sieve. The small grains of wheat fall through the sieve holes, leaving behind the stones. d. Some paddy husk mixed with paddy grains Winnowing is used. The light husk gets blown away by the wind, separating from the paddy grains. e. Some chalk powder and salt powder When put in water, the salt gets dissolved. Chalk does not dissolve. This insoluble chalk is filtered out. Boiling and evaporating the salt solution leaves the salt behind.
