Following steps: Draw any line segments PQ using scale. Draw another reference line l and take any point A on the line. Measure the length PQ using compass. A as center and PQ measure as radius draw an arc on reference line like AX = PQ again X as center draw another arc on same direction on the same line like XY = PQ similarly by the same draw an arc like YB = PQ . AB ¯ = 3 PQ ¯ as shown in the figure. Hence, AB is the required line like AB = 3 PQ as shown below.
