Steps for drawing a circle.

$1 .$ Mark a point $O$ on a drawing sheet as the centre of the circle.

$2 .$ Open the compass for the required radius of $3.5$ cm. To do so, place the pointed tip of the compass on the zero mark of the ruler.

$3 .$ Now, adjust the pencil end of the compass in such a way that the pencil tip touches the $3.5$ cm mark.

$4 .$ Place the pointed tip of the compass on point $O$ , and turn the compass holding its upper tip to draw a complete circle.

Now take two points on the circle as $P & Q . Join P Q . Now P Q$ is the required chord. Chord has a finite length and its end points lie on the circle.

Steps for drawing perpendicular bisector of the chord $P Q .$

$1 .$ With $P$ as centre and radius more than $\frac{1}{2} P Q$ , draw arcs above and below $P Q$ using compass.

$2 .$ With $Q$ as centre and same radius as in step $1,$ draw arcs cutting the previous arcs at two points.

$3 .$ Join the points. Line segment will bisect chord $P Q$ at $M$ and will also pass through the centre $O$ of the circle.
