The five kingdoms of classification are based upon certain characters like mode of nutrition, thallus organisation of the body, cell structure of organisms, phylogenetic relationships, and mode of reproduction. This form of kingdom classification includes five kingdoms, which are given below:

Kingdom Monera:

All prokaryotes belong to the Kingdom Monera, which do not possess a true nucleus. Cells of prokaryotes do not have a nuclear membrane and any membrane-bound organelles. Example: bacteria.

Kingdom Protista:

The Kingdom Protista includes unicellular and a few simple multicellular eukaryotes. There are two main groups of protists. The plant-like protists are photosynthetic and are commonly called algae. Algae include unicellular and multicellular types. The other group is the heterotrophic protozoans.

Kingdom Fungi:

Fungi are eukaryotic, and most of these organisms are multicellular. Fungi are saprophytes as they grow on decay and decaying organic matter. Kingdom Fungi includes moulds, mildews, mushrooms, and yeast.

Kingdom Plantae:

Plants are multicellular eukaryotes that carry out photosynthesis. Reserve food materials are stored in the form of starch. Plant cells have a cell wall, which is made up of cellulose. Kingdom Plantae includes ferns, cone-bearing plants, and flowering plants.

Kingdom Animalia:

Animals are multicellular, eukaryotic, and heterotrophic animals. Cells have no cell wall. They belong to both vertebrate and invertebrate. Invertebrates include sponges, hydra, flatworms, roundworms, insects, snails, starfishes. Vertebrates include fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals.
