The formation of new plants from an embryo without meiosis and fertilization is called apomixis. It has been categorised into two main types: i) Non-recurrent apomixis and ii) recurrent apomixis.
i) Non-recurrent apomixis: In this type of apomixis, the embryo is formed from haploid cells of the embryo sac without fertilization. These are of two types:

Haploid parthenogenesis: Here embryo is formed from the haploid egg without fertilization.

Haploid apogamy: The embryo is developed from any other cell of female gametophyte like synergids, antipodals, etc., except the egg cell, then it is called haploid agamospermy.

ii) Recurrent apomixis: This type of apomixis is also known as gametophytic apomixis. These are of two types:

Generative apospory: Here, the embryo sac is developed from a diploid cell of archesporium without meiosis. Thus, the cells located inside the embryo sac are diploid in nature and embryo formed from these diploid cells are known as generative apospory.

Somatic apospory: In this type of apomixis diploid embryo sac develops from diploid cells of nucellus or integuments and from the cells of the embryo sac, a diploid embryo is developed.
