Two different plants living together and both benefiting from each other are known as symbiotic plants. Symbiotic relationships can occur between organisms of the same or different kingdoms such as between plants and animals, animals and bacteria, or even between different species of microorganisms.

Example -1: Lichen is a good example of a symbiotic plant. The body of a lichen consists of algae and fungi. They live in close physical contact with each other. Algae being green provide food material to the fungal component in the lichen. In return, the fungi provide shelter, water and minerals to the algae.

Example - 2: Certain plants, especially legumes, have a symbiotic relationship with nitrogen-fixing bacteria called Rhizobium. These bacteria convert atmospheric nitrogen into a usable form for the plant. This process helps the plant obtain essential nitrogen compounds for growth, while the bacteria benefit from receiving carbohydrates from the plant.
