The box-type solar cooker has the following parts: outer wooden box, inner black painted metal box, reflector or plane mirror, glass cover plate.

Construction and working of solar cooker:

A thick glass sheet covers the box and a plane mirror reflector is attached to the box. The food to be cooked is put in metal containers which are painted black from outside. These metal containers are then placed inside the solar cooker box and covered with a glass sheet. The solar cooker is kept in the sunshine. The radiation from the sun passes through the glass sheet.

These rays are then absorbed by the black container. Once the sun’s heat rays enter the cooker box, then the glass sheet cover does not allow them to go back. The reflector of solar cooker is adjusted in such a way that maximum sunlight falls on it. In this way, more and more heat rays of the sun get trapped in the box due to which the temperature in the solar cooker rises to about $100 ° C$ to $140 ° C$ in two to three hours.
