It usually last for 3 to 7 days. The primary purpose of menstruation is to prepare the body for pregnancy. If fertilisation does not occur, the unfertilised egg, along with the thickened uterine lining is shed during menstruation.

Menarche: Menarche is the first menstrual period. It typically occurs between the ages of 11 and 14 years old. Menarche is a sign that a girl's body is becoming sexually mature.

Menopause: Menopause is the end of menstruation. It occurs when a woman's ovaries stop producing eggs. Menopause typically occurs between the ages of 45 and 55 years old.
