(i) In general, the ionisation enthalpy increases along any transition metal series from left to right due to decrease in atomic radii and increase in the nuclear force of attraction.

(ii) The increase in ionisation enthalpies of $d$ -block elements along a period is less when compared to $s$ and $p$ -block elements. This is due to the fact that, the addition of electrons in $d$ -orbitals causes screening effect and addition of protons to nucleus increases the nuclear force. These opposing factors compensate each other and the increase in ionisation enthalpies in $3 d$ -block elements is less.

(iii) First ionisation enthalpy varies irregularly due to reorganisation of energy after the removal of one electron. This results in the release of exchange energy between $(n - 1) d$ and $ns$ -electrons.

(iv) The increase in the second and third ionisation enthalpies along any series is higher when compared to the increase in their first ionisation enthalpies.
