The study of the junction diode characteristics reveals that the junction diode offers a low resistance path, when forward biased ;and a high resistance path when reverse biased.This feature of the junction diode enable it to be used as a rectifier.If the function diode gets forward biased during first half cycle, it will get reverse biased during the second half cycle and vice-versa.

The positive and negative half cycles of the AC input signal pass through the full wave rectifier circuit and hence it is called the full wave rectifier. The circuit is shown in Figure. It consists of two p-n junction diodes, a centre tapped transformer, and a load resistor $R_{L}$ . The centre is usually taken as the ground or zero voltage reference point. Due to the centre tap transformer, the output voltage rectified by each diode is only one half of the total secondary voltage.The diagram showing full-wave rectifier.
