Vegetative propagation is a technique where a new plant is grown using plant parts like root, stem, leaf, etc. It is a type of asexual reproduction. It is of two main types: Natural vegetative propagation and artificial mode of vegetative reproduction.

The types of Natural Vegetative Propagation in plants are as follows:

Vegetative propagation through adventitious roots. Example sweet potato.

Vegetative propagation through stem: Some plants produce subaerial stems which develop as lateral branches from the mother plant and gets detached from the mother cell to grow into a new plant. E.g., rhizomes, corms, etc.

Vegetative propagation through leaves: E.g., leaves of Bryophyllum.

The types of Artificial Propagation:

Cutting is a very simple method of plant propagation. In these parent plant's stem with nodes and internodes is placed in moist soil. This grows into a new plant.

In tissue culture technique, the desired plant is placed in a suitable nutrient medium. The tissue grows into an unorganised mass, known as a callus. It is introduced into another medium that contains growth hormone where callus gives rise to plantlets.
