Print revolution is the term used to describe the shift from hand printing technology to the mechanical printing press. After this shift, the production of books became quicker as well as cheaper. This helped in the spread of books and a new reading public emerged.

There was a great impact of the print revolution on people. A few ways in which it affected the lives of people are given below.

1) Earlier ballads and stories were performed and the common people watched. Reading was mostly restricted to the rich. However, with low prices and greater production, books became available to the general population, and a new culture of reading among the public emerged.

2) Oral culture and written culture became intertwined with each other as ballads and other folk tales were printed along with images. These were then recited in public places like taverns and reaching even the illiterate people.

3) People became more critical of various matters as new information. Religious, social, and other texts became available to people, they reinterpreted these texts and questioned various practices of the Catholic Church. This caused them to ban certain books and execute people promoting them.

4) Literacy rate was initially low however eventually it went up, and different Churches contributed in the spread of education.
